Description
The characteristic of the String Quartet No.1 is the partly complex polyphony. The individual voices visibly weave into one another to form a pulsating rhythmic structure. Lyrical elements as well as delicate pizzicato sounds contrast with shrill accented violin interjections and powerful ostinato basses and merge again and again in tonal fields. The individual movements express different inner moods, with the fifth movement also being a reminiscence and a superimposition of the previous four.
