Description
The concerto for clarinet and orchestra (strings, 1 flute/piccolo, 2 horns, 1 bassoon) was composed in traditional, tonal language in 3 movements, whereby the first movement leads directly attacca into the second.
After a purely soloistic beginning of the clarinet, partly humorous elements of the first movement contrast with the melancholic, cuddly calm mood of the second movement, which is abruptly interrupted in the middle of the cadenza by shrill string sounds.
The third movement is dominated by fast rhythmic structures and ends in a brilliant stretta.
